Perched on a hill and surrounded by the original city walls, the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany is a magical place, especially in the fall. Terracotta turrets brush against the sky as the golden leaves of the season meld with the burnished town walls. Walking around you feel as if you’ve stepped into the pages of a fairytale.
Inside the walls, neat colorful houses line up together like soldiers, each with window boxes overflowing with the most beautiful flowers you’ve ever seen. You spot windows, thrown open to catch the refreshing cool of the fall breeze as people stroll around the gray cobblestones below.
It truly seems that Hansel and Gretel will step out of one of the doorways, clasp hands and skip down the cobblestone streets towards the waiting forest beyond.
Story time curtains in a kitchen window, illuminated by the fading afternoon light. Carefully tended gardens, bursting forth with all sorts of roses and wildflowers.
And the light….ah, you just can’t replicate it anywhere else…
