The Doors of Notre Dame

When you stand in front of Notre Dame in Paris, you are instantly struck with its enormous height.  It soars straight up to the heavens and leaves you feeling as if you can reach God…as was probably the intention.  A church such as this needs impressive doors and amazing doors it has.

The current cathedral was begun in the 12th century, but these doors were part of work done in the early 13th century.   The elaborately scrolled hinges are of unknown origin, but it is thought they were done by hand.  Amazing craftsmanship.
